Pictured at the wheel of one of our latest restoration projects, the 1978 Autocar DC 9364 tractor “Miss Violet”, General Manager, Dave Hibberd is a self-described truck enthusiast. Running a truck shop is the logical end result for someone who has been involved with trucks and their repair and restoration since childhood. After receiving a Masters in Public Administration and what was then known as a Class I commercial driver’s license, Dave went into the public works field before venturing into private sector in the solid waste business. Since 1994, he has had the privilege to lead and work with a very knowledgeable and talented team of professionals at Cape Cod Truck Service.
After doing a great job as a combination Parts/Service Associate, Pete has transitioned over to the Part Manager position. He brings broad experience in parts to the position from his years at several local automotive & light truck dealerships. He has proven to be a fast leaner in regard to medium and heavy truck parts identification and procurement. I’m sure our trailer customers will be pleased to know that Peter will continue to be “go to” person for trailer service and repair, working with his team (Terry and Tom) to make sure the repairs are made within the scheduled timeframe, while still maintaining the level of quality that our customers have come to expect. While he is filling a new role, Pete remains a customer service professional at his core. His initial conversation will continue to open with “how may we help you?”. He is always willing to go the extra mile to try and find the right part for our customers, in spite of any “supply chain” issues which may crop up.While currently residing in Eastham, Pete and his fiance’ Aime will shortly be moving into their new home which they are building in Wellfleet.
All of us at Cape Cod Truck Service are pleased to welcome back Parts Manager Emeritus, Bill Burke, the dean of parts professionals on Cape Cod if not S.E. Mass. Bill will be assisting Parts Manager, Pete Lennon on a part time basis. Utilizing his extensive knowledge of our parts system and our vendors’ capabilities, he will again be able to provide our techs and counter customers with the correct part in a timely manner. While Bill can be passionate about parts, he still manages to carve out some time to pursue his true calling as an avid shore fisherman, who has been very successful for many years, in both salt and freshwater venues depending on the season. Semi-retirement has also given Bill the opportunity to spend some quality time enjoying his grandkids on a regular basis.
With over 25 years on service at Cape Cod Truck, Terry is #2 in the employee longevity category. He has worn a lot of hats during his tenure including building drive shafts, as well as, general vehicle repair. However, for the past 20 years he is perhaps most recognized as our principal State and DOT inspector who has made every effort to perform his inspections in a fair, thorough, professional manner in accordance with the most current regulatory directions issued by the Commonwealth. Since he has acquired a vast knowledge of trailers and their components over the years, Terry has also come to be a very valuable resource in our trailer world. He is able to quickly identify the correct parts required so that our parts and service staff can get our customers back on the road quickly. Whether you find him in the inspection lane or in trailer bay #1, you know he lives by the mantra of “the customer comes first” and he will always go the extra mile to make sure you have a positive experience. A native Cape Codder, Terry and Life Partner Nona reside in Brewster with an ever changing mix of kids and grandkids.
Mark joined us a few years ago as our Ford truck expert after spending the last 12 years at a local Ford dealership. He achieved a number of high level certifications including Ford Senior Master Technician, Ford Diesel Technician and ASE Master Technician. Drivability problems and electrical trouble shooting are two challenging areas that Mark has demonstrated particular expertise.
Dan Wyzik brings a great deal of knowledge and experience in heavy truck and equipment repair to Cape Cod Truck. Prior to coming here, he was the fleet mechanic for one of the largest building material and rental equipment fleets on the Cape. From in-chassis overhauls to troubleshooting hydraulic issues on truck booms and forklifts, Dan does it all. Dan thrives on new challenges, and he has always taken advantage of any available training opportunities to broaden his skill set and keep up with new technologies in the field. Dan, his wife Susan and son Dan Jr. live in Mashpee with their two rescue dogs Spirit and Haley.
We are very pleased to add Jose Granados to our staff. Jose is a long time resident of the Lower Cape with a superb reputation in the auto body field. Above all else, he is dedicated to producing a quality product and has demonstrated a commitment to detail which is quite rare. When it comes to custom work, he brings a sense of enthusiastic artistry to the project, which often results in a “wow” factor at completion. His talents extend to the mechanical and welding fields as well, and he is quite accomplished in both. During the season, we have taken full advantage of his capabilities by tasking him with a good portion of our trailer repair activities. He has brought the same thoroughness and quality centered approach to trailer repairs as he has to his more familiar work. His hobbies include restoring old vehicles, (go figure). A physical fitness nut with an environmental conscience, Jose commutes by bicycle daily from his home in Orleans.
Frey started with us as a coop student from the automotive program at Cape Cod Tech. He has always had a strong affinity for things mechanical, and trucks in particular. In fact his senior project involved successfully repowering a gasoline powered truck with a diesel engine. Following graduation, he joined us full time performing basic repairs and receiving hands on instruction on a wide variety of trucks and equipment from our senior technicians. Frey has continued his technical training and has graduated from United Technical College with a technology degree with a focus on medium and heavy-duty truck repair. Through a combination of supervised hands-on training here and his classroom training, Frey is now qualified to work independently on a broad range of vehicle makes and models as well as, the semi-trailers and off-road equipment that we service and repair at Cape Cod Truck Service. In addition to performing mechanical repairs, Frey is one of our lead alignment technicians who is qualified to operate our new, state of the art, Hunter “Hawkeye” 4 wheel computerized alignment system. While he has several personal projects going at any point in time, his primary focus is on an O.J. style Ford Bronco that he has converted to diesel power, revamped the entire suspension & axles, as well as, performing a major body rehab.
We are pleased to welcome Bill Barton to our team as a Welder/Fabricator. Bill’s journey to his current position at Cape Cod Truck Service was anything but linear. In fact, his most recent job was as a pre-school teacher with the YMCA. Bill did a great job in that role and was much appreciated by his students and his fellow teachers. However, circumstances dictated that he return to the welding field, which we at Cape Cod Truck Service selfishly believe is his true calling. Prior to his detour into teaching, he honed his skills over the past 25 years starting with construction fabrication, moving on to heavy structural repairs on refuse industry vehicles & containers and finishing with custom ornamental iron work. His work is structurally sound with an excellent fit and finish, as he is very proficient in MIG, TiG and stick welding. He is also qualified to make aluminum repairs. As our “go to” guy for truck body and equipment installs whether it is a dump from Iroquois Manufacturing, an aluminum flatbed from Truckcraft, a box van from Supreme or liftgate from TommyGate, customers can rest assured Billy will mount it in accordance with the highest industry standards.
Christian is a recent “wash ashore” most recently from Georgia. He started his career on the ground floor changing tractor trailer truck tires and performing routine maintenance on the big rigs at a truck stop in North Carolina. As he gained experience, he was teamed up with veteran technicians who trained him on diagnostic equipment and major engine work. His exposure to a broad range of trucks in both independent shops and dealerships has proven quite useful here at Cape Cod Truck Service where we are committed to performing quality work on virtually all makes and models. Training is necessity to keep up with the ever-increasing complexity of the vehicles we see. We are in the process of training Christian on our state of the art, Hunter Alignment equipment and he will be taking evening training offered by our vendors on a variety of subjects, including electronic fuel injection and pollution control equipment. When not at work, or commuting to work on his E-bike from Dennis, he can often be found in his garage playing his guitar jamming to the Allman Brothers or ZZ Top.
Tom Gardner has joined the staff of Cape Cod Truck Service in our trailer repair division as a Trailer Technician. Like many of our team, Tom has worked in a number of fields prior to coming to Cape Cod Truck. Perhaps some of you are old enough to remember a line from the movie the movie “The Graduate”, “plastics, Benjamin, plastics." Tom spent his early working years in Hyannis following that advice producing plastic products at Packaging Industries in Hyannis starting out on the line and progressing on to be machinist. From there he put his mechanical aptitude to work at the Town of Orleans working in the maintenance garage and out in the field as a driver/equipment operator. The Town had a number of trailers in its fleet, thus, Tom came to us with some familiarity with them. He has since dramatically increased his knowledge of trailer parts and repairs after working alongside the guru of trailers on Cape Cod, our own Terry Shovelier, Tom consistently demonstrates a care and thoroughness to his repairs which ties in well with our theme of doing it right the first time.
Jay is our trailer specialist for all types of trailers including, boat, landscape and cargo trailers. His goal is to provide the most safe, cost effective solution to customers’ trailer requirements, which can run from selecting the right trailer and options to safely transport a boat or machine, rehabbing the trailer in our shop, or providing advice on the parts needed for those customers who wish to make their own repairs. Jay has become very knowledgeable about our range of trailer lines, parts, and accessories, that, coupled with his excellent customer service skills developed over 30+ years in sales and marketing have consistently resulted in a positive sales experience. A former commercial fisherman, Jay currently runs an Amesbury skiff out of Stage Harbor.
